Cora Thompson, 95, Oakwood Terrace, died peacefully surrounded by family on July 16, 2008. Born in Dartmouth, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Edith (Donaldson) Horne. She is survived by her children, Barbara MacAlpine (Donald), Dartmouth; Bill Thompson (Rosalind), Truro; Carl Thompson (Marsa), Shelburne; and her sister Jean Pye, Dartmouth. She was Nanny to her grandchildren, Susan (Paul) and Jill (Sean), Jay (Jennifer) and Ann, Tarah (Brent) and Tobi (Lenny) as well as her great grandchildren, Jennifer and Kim, Anna and Scott, Peter, John and William, Zoe and Talia. She was predeceased by her husband Garnet, brother Everett and sister Eileen (Babe) Ring. Cora grew up in Dartmouth and was a survivor of the Halifax Explosion. She and Garnet lived in Eastern Passage and Halifax prior to moving to Shelburne in 1954 where she was an active member of Trinity United Church and IODE. Cora loved sports, especially hockey and baseball and was an excellent bowler. She moved back to Dartmouth in 1982, living life to the fullest and bringing joy to all who knew her. Cora delighted in being with her family, traveling, playing cards, and seeing Moosehead hockey games. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her apple pies and fudge were family favourites. Special thanks to Dr. Moriarty and all the staff at Oakwood Terrace for their compassionate care and for making a home for Cora over the last three years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Cole Harbour Woodside United Church, 15 Bissett Rd., where a service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall. Internment of ashes in Pine Grove Cemetery, Shelburne, at 5 p.m. for all who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Oakwood Terrace, the NS Alzheimer's Society or the charity of your choice.
