David Lee Burgess, 59, Bass River, passed away suddenly from heart complications, on Tuesday evening, June 17, 2008 in Colchester Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 16, 1949 in Truro, he was a son of Ellen (Archibald) Burgess, Truro, and the late Cyrus Burgess. David was a trucker all of his working life and worked for Brookfield Creamery, Rothesay and currently with Seaboard. A devoted and loving family man, he cherished spending time with his family. Along with his mother, David is survived by children, Tracey (Robert) Preeper, Shelley and Michael Burgess, all of Truro; sisters, Lorena (Fred) Creelman, Bible Hill; Rhoda Stone, Truro; Mary (Walter) McNutt, Bible Hill; Doreen (Neil) MacMaster, Porters Lake; brothers, Glendon “Glennie”, Ontario; Dale (Christine), Old Barns; grandchildren, Samantha Wallace, Jessica and Mathew Burgess; great-granddaughter, Haylie Wallace; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where David’s family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Peter MacRae officiating. Interment in Christ Anglican Church Cemetery, Clifton. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory to Christ Anglican Church Cemetery or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
