Donald Louis Holmes, 80, of Bible Hill and formerly of Antigonish, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2007 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in River John, he was a son of the late Percy and Margaret (Dana) Holmes. He was a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers. He was an elder for many years in the Marshy Hope Presbyterian Church. Donald worked for many years for CJFX radio in Antigonish as the chief engineer. He was a member of the Genealogy Society. He loved music and books. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by sons, Kenneth of Bible Hill, Douglas (Marguerite) and James (Susan), both of Antigonish; daughter Debra (Glenn) Sampson of Bible Hill; grandchildren, Karen, Donald, Michael, Sarah, David, Matthew, Jonathan; great-grandson Riley Scott Creelman-Holmes; brother Kenneth (Nellie) of Matthews, North Carolina and Lochaber, Antigonish, co-sister Ruth Holmes of Jacksonville, Fla. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Rosalie Holmes; sister Marie. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and funeral service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, both in the Mattatall Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. Rev. Dr. Brian Ross will officiate with burial to follow in Riverbank Cemetery, Toney River. Donations in memory may be made to the Arthritis Society.
