Dorothy May Lavers, 86, East Mountain. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother on Jan. 20, 2009 in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Fairview, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Lillian Isner. She was predeceased by her husband Milford and brother Burton. She is survived by her son Bryan (Angela), Onslow; daughters Karen (Roger) MacCallum, North River; Susan (Bruce) Dempsey, Herring Cove; Colleen (Ian) McNab, Red Deer, Alta.; sisters Vera (Bob) Ernst, Bayside; Patsy Haughan, Pictou; brothers Donald (Elva), Hatchet Lake; Robie, Hilden. She will be especially missed by grandsons Tyler, Darcy and Nicholas MacCallum and Jacob Dempsey of whom she was very proud and participated in every aspect of their lives. Dorothy attended Mrs. Murphy’s Business College and worked as a stenographer at the Ordinance Corp during the Second World War. During that time she met Milford, later marrying and settling in Truro. She was at the Brookfield Creamery for a short time, but then worked in the home, excelling as a mother and supporting Milford’s business endeavours. Dorothy was an active member of First United Church, where she was a long standing member of the UCW, and the Happy Harmonies. She was an active community member where she participated and volunteered in numerous events and gatherings. She was a remarkable woman, known for her positive outlook on life and can-do approach. She touched many lives and hearts where her reason for being was to make a difference in someone’s life each day. She loved to travel, the outdoors, learning and sharing with people. Family was most important as she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her nurturing and giving spirit showed kindness to everyone. She valued each and every one of her friendships as they enhanced her life providing support, laughter and fellowship. She made the best pies and biscuits in the world!
