Dr. Henry Richard Ludwig Martenstyn C.R.C.P. (C), 82, Truro, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2008 at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, N.S. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Doris, sons John, Andrew (Joy), Jeff and granddaughters Samantha and Alexis. He was predeceased by his parents John and Irene, sister Doris and brother George. Ludwig was born and educated in Sri Lanka. He then moved to the United States and completed his residency in radiology at the Lahey Clinic in Boston. This is where he met and married his wife Doris R. Maynard. He and his family then moved to Truro in 1962, where he served as radiologist at the Colchester Regional Hospital for 30 years, 25 of which he was chief. In addition, Ludwig served on the board of directors of the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation. He was also on the board of directors of the Colchester Food Bank. For 45 years he has been an enthusiastic member of the Truro Gyro Club. For 17 years he served as a scout leader at St. Andrew’s United Church. In his retirement, he joined the Golden K Club and enjoyed morning coffee with his buddies at the Glengarry. Ludwig had a zest for life and enjoyed helping others when he could. He greatly enjoyed organizing social events. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and followed their every pitch. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful care given by the doctors and staff of the hospital. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church, Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Colchester Community Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made (if so desired) in his memory to the Colchester Food Bank, the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation or St. Andrew’s United Church.
