CARLETON - Norman Vincent of Swift Current, SK, passed away January 15, 2009, at the Swift Current Care Centre. The funeral service was held at 11:00 A.M., January 19, 2009, from First United Church, with Reverend Kevin E. Johnston officiating. His son Scott Carleton presented the Eulogy and the ushers were Edward Silzer and Lucien Monette. The pallbearers were: Elmer Carleton, Keith Carleton, William Rouse, Cameron Silzer, Clint Terlson and Clarence Tschetter. Norman is survived by his spouse: Helen Carleton; a son: Scott Carleton (spouse: Gail Rouse-Carleton) grandchild: Brittan Carleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents: Vincent and Catherine Carleton; brothers: Ronald Carleton and spouse Evelyn Carleton, and Gary Carleton in infancy. Norman was born June 22, 1921, at Neville, SK. He attended school at the Titanic School and Cadillac School. He was united in marriage to Helen Silzer on October 22, 1958 at Assiniboia, SK. He farmed for over fifty five years. Norman lived to farm. Farming was an extension of himself. He took a great sense of pride and accomplishment to be able to bring in a successful harvest, knowing that all the hard work and sacrifices had paid off. Each season could be recalled vividly, as if it was yesterday, and could be discussed at length. Going from working the land with a team of horses to that of ever more increasing horse power there was always a sense of wonder for all the changes to agriculture. He and Helen loved to visit friends and relatives. Numerous stories of going to old-time dances at Pioneer Hall always brought a smile to Norman's face. While there were occasional vacations outside of Saskatchewan, Norman always returned. He loved the farm. The birth of his only grandchild in 1997, brought renewed sense of purpose to his life. Memorial donations in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated by the family. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
