KRASKO - John Krasko of Gull Lake, SK, age 84 years, passed away January 22, 2009. John was born August 20, 1924, in Carmichael, SK. He attended school in Carmichael and then one year at Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon. He worked at the Maple Creek C.P.R. station until 1943, when he decided to start farming up on the bench, south of Carmichael. He moved out there with his two horses Tony and Mary. With the help of his father and his many friends from the C.P.R., they fenced, put up hay, and harvested the crops. He often talked of hunting on horseback and hauling grain with horse and wagon down the Lundale Trail. He talked of when he was younger and had entered a gopher derby in Carmichael. They were paid for each gopher they killed and had to present the tail as proof of their kill. Up until a few summers ago he still spent many hours shooting gophers with his 22. On July 12, 1945 he married Mae McBee of Tompkins and just this past summer they celebrated their 63rd anniversary. In 1973, John and Mae built a new home in Gull Lake and began spending the winters in town. John served on the Hospital Board and the Special Care Centre Board. He was a Councilor for the RM of Carmichael for over 20 years and was also an Elks member. He enjoyed collecting arrowheads, hammer heads and coins. Later in life he discovered the joy of "coffee row" where he made a new set of friends. It had to be something pretty important happening at home for him to miss the 9 AM coffee! Johnny will always be remembered for his easy going nature. He was a caring and generous man who always worried about others more than himself. He had a quiet sense of humor. He was a true farmer to the end, always worrying about the farm; if there was enough rain, was it too dry, was it too hot or too cold. The worrying is gone now, but forever in our hearts you will stay... loved and remembered every day. John was predeceased by his parents Paul and Pearl Krasko and a sister in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Mae; a son John Paul; daughter Kaaren; grandchildren-Danielle (Fenton), Shannon (David) and Brad; a son David (Rhonda), grandchildren-Brandy (Tyler), Brian (Tara) and Dara (Curtis): great-grandchildren: Britoni, Carsten, Presley, Harlyn, Natasha, Sullivan and Ariel. The memorial service was held Monday, January 26, 2009, at the Knox United Church, Gull Lake, SK, with Reverend Bev Diduck officiating. The eulogist was Tara Krasko. Honorary pallbearers were "all who shared in John's life". Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Unit 12, 1150 Central Ave. N.
