Aged 83 years of East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, formerly of Springhill, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008 in the Lodge. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the Late Robert and Ida (Boutilier) Smith. His early working years were spent in the coal mines until there closing, and was later employed with Corrections Canada as a Correctional Officer until his retirement. He enjoyed baseball and his family, especially his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife the former Renovia "Toots" Maddison. Sons, David (Dorothy Hollis) of Springhill. Grandchildren, Michael (Barbara) Smith of Springhill, Steven Smith of Coldbrook, and Evan Smith (Erin Rushton) of Calgary, Alta. Great grandchildren, Kate, Cormac, and Bryia. Sister, Katherine Wercholz of Hamilton, Ont., nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother Leonard. Cremation has taken place. A visitation was held from 1- 2 pm on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in A.H. Brown Funeral Home, Springhill, followed immediately at 2:00 p.m. by the memorial service, Reverend Brieanna Andrews officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Springhill, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
