GARDEN OF EDEN – Alexander Lloyd MacDonald, 86, Garden of Eden, passed away Friday, March 9, 2007 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Garden of Eden, he was a son of the late George William and Florence Catherine (MacLaren) MacDonald. During the Second World War, he served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the 28th Canadian Armoured Regiment. He was Superintendent of Highways for eight years and was employed with the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton for 29 years. He was a life-time member of the Liberal Party and represented Pictou East as Member of the Legislative Assembly from 1963 - 1967 and 1970 - 1974. He was a member of Blair Presbyterian Church, Garden of Eden, where he served on the Board of Managers. He was chairperson of the Garden of Eden Cemetery Committee. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 75, Eureka and Thorburn Veterans Association. Lloyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a gentleman, and friend to many. Surviving are daughters, Catherine (Robert) Schella, Sydney River; Mary Helen (Gary) Connors, MacLellan’s Brook; sons, Dickie (Sandra), Yarmouth; Gordie (Anne), Blue Mountain; Douglas (Kaye), Boyd (Jackie), Garden of Eden; daughter-in-law, Margaret MacDonald, MacLellan’s Brook; sister, Margaret “Dan Hugh” MacKinnon, New Glasgow; grandchildren, Shondi, Blair (Danielle), Caleb, Gregg (Angela), Jason (Theresa), Will (Dana), Frances (Sean), Denisa (Wayne), Dawn, Dwaine (Karen), Adam, Maria, Laura, Sara, Bradley, Danny, Chris (Kylea), Michelle, Amanda, Cory and Mary Ann; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Bailey, Riley, Cameron, Joseph, MacKenzie, Corey, Allyson, Reegan, Braden, Liam and Karsten. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Elizabeth (Dickie); son, Ian; granddaughter, Amber; great-grandsons, James, Jordan; sisters, Jessie Stalheber, Evelyn James and Mary Helen MacDonald in childhood. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 75, tribute service will be held 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday in Blair Presbyterian Church with Rev. Calvin Crichton officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Eden Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to Blair Presbyterian Church or the Thorburn War Memorial.
