French River, Piedmont Valley Rd. – The death of Lee Simpson Sr. occurred Sunday, October 14th, 2007, at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born at home in French River, January 22nd, 1921, he was the son of the late Daniel Simpson and Ethel (Grant) Simpson. Lee lived all his life in French River. Lee served overseas from 1940-1943. When returning back home Lee was in the trucking business, and became well known for delivering firewood all over Pictou County. Throughout his life he built and operated two sawmills and continued to be a lumberman until retirement. Lee liked playing bingo and playing cards and always had a great interest in politics. He is survived by wife, Dorothy Isabel (O’Brien); his children: Lee Wayne Simpson (Jeannie), New Glasgow; Lillian Jean (Ken) Gates, Central West River; Lyn Marie Boone (Frank), Bay Port, Lunenburg Co.; Kevin Joseph, at home; Sherry Dawn (Jay) Syed, Calgary; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister, Muriel Dodds in Florida. He was predeceased by brothers: Douglas, James and Grant; sisters, Margaret McCunn and Catherine Holt. Cremation has taken place. No visitation or memorial service by request of the deceased. A private family committal will be held on Sunday, October 21st, 2007 at the French River Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the French River Cemetery Society (building upkeep) or a charity of your choice.
