Anna (Skoke) Macleod
“My soul does magnify the Lord” Anna (Skoke) MacLeod, 86, of 67 Bridge Ave., Stellarton. Born Anica Skoke in Dol, (Croatia), Yugoslavia, Anna died peacefully in humility and complete surrender to her Creator, Tuesday, October 16th, 2007, at home. On January 7th, 1929, she arrived at Pier 21, an immigrant along with her mother, Veronica and sisters, Katherine and Doris. They came to join her father, Alexander Carl Skoke Sr. who arrived three years earlier to earn passage and find a new home for his family. Anna founded and established Skoke’s Beauty Salon in 1939 at the tender age of 18 where she worked until 1974. Anna was a devout Catholic and practised her faith at daily mass and private prayer throughout her entire life. She fully exemplified her love of God and deep devotion to the Blessed Mother within her daily life even within the simplest of daily tasks. She leaves us a legacy of Catholic faith and complete trust in the will of God in each of our lives. Anna is survived by her children: Janet Crowell, Lake Echo, HRM; Jim (Legora), Stellarton; Mary (Richard) Breen, Antigonish; Gregor (Jo-Anne), Dartmouth; Gloria (Drew) Hansen, Charlottetown; Patricia (Kenneth) Muir, Stellarton; John (Kenda), Stellarton; Joan (Ansel) Campbell, Stellarton; Donna (Warren) Stinson, Stellarton; and Sandy (Shan), Stellarton; 27 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine (Fred) Vienneau, Stellarton; brother; Alex (Betty) Skoke, Stellarton. Anna was predeceased by her beloved husband, Watson; her grandson, David Andrew Breen; and her sisters, Doris (Harold) Langley and Rose (Stan) Mayich; and daughter-in-law, Janette (MacDonald) MacLeod. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at her home, 67 Bridge Ave., Stellarton. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald and Father Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Donations in memory of Anna may be made to the Palliative Care Society of the Aberdeen Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton.
