Charles Stirling MacKinnon, 85, passed away March 16, 2007 at the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou. Charles was born in Seafoam on October 21, 1921. He was the last surviving family member of Charles and Jessie Ann (Elliott) MacKinnon. He was a lumberman and farmer and used to sell strawberries for a living. He worked hard all his life until his health deteriorated. He is survived by his daughter, Juanita; son, Alan; step-son, Gilbert (Sheryl) Cyr, all of Durham; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty (Cyr) MacKinnon, an infant daughter, sister, Mary Bell Sullivan brothers: Norman, James and George. Visitation will be today 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from MacLeod’s Funeral Home, River John. Funeral service will be Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. from St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Toney River with Rev. Jeanette Fleischer officiating, assisted by Rev. Donald Sutherland. Burial at Riverbank Cemetery, Toney Mills. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’ memory may be made to the Shiretown Nursing Home.
