THE PONDS - Charles Frederick "Freddie" Smith, 67, The Ponds, formerly of Lismore, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Antigonish, he was a son of S. Emily (Williams) (Smith) Donnelly, The Ponds and the late Allister Ross Smith. He had been a Boiler Maker and self-employed fisherman prior to retiring from Arisaig Fisheries and Ocean Choice. He was a member and Clerk of Session of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Merigomish. He was a former fire chief of the Merigomish and District Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Hudson Lodge, No. 77, A.F & A. M., Thorburn. Freddie enjoyed reading, playing Lob Ball and darts. Most of all, he dearly loved his family. Surviving besides his mother, Emily, are his wife of 26 years, Faye Elizabeth (Murdock); step-sons, Tony (Denise) Dwyer, Acton, Ont.; Jeffrey (Dawn Marie) Dwyer, Edmonton, Alta.; Woody (Vickie) Dwyer, California; brother, Bill Smith, The Ponds; step-grandchildren: Marlie, Jamie, Carter, Rowan and Riley Dwyer; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by sister, Marlene Dillon; step-father, Alex Donnelly. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating. Interment will be in Murray's Point Cemetery, Lower Barney's River. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or any charity of choice. Hudson Masonic Lodge will conduct their service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
