(Virginia Beach) - Jessie May Baker passed away peacefully May 16, 2008, in Sentara Nursing Center, Virginia Beach, after a long illness which she bore with courage and dignity. She was a devoted wife and mother and was retired from the Virginia Beach Public Schools. A native of Grand Beach, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of Agnes and William Follett. She was predeceased by her sisters, Irene and Ann and her brothers, Clarence, Harold and Garfield. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 56 years, Marion F. Baker; her daughter, Eva; her brother, William Follett (special nephew Clarence and niece Wilma); her sisters: Valetta (Arnold and special niece Christine and nephew Keith) and Blanche; sister-in-law, Mary Louise Follett; and special nieces, Janette and Linda (husband Majella). The family wants to express gratitude to Dr. Dau Le as well as to Dr. Matthew Tignor and his staff, compassionate physicians who provided critical care in her time of greatest need. Also to thank "all" the caregivers and guardian angels, we appreciate all the care and concern that has been extended to her and our family. A graveside service was held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Tuesday, May 20. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations to the American Parkinson Disease Assoc., 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305-1425 or to Relay For Life.
