RIVERTON - Elmer Cameron Way, age 89, of the Trafalgar Rd., Riverton, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Clyde and Jane (Cameron) Way. Elmer was a resident of Riverton since 1948. He was a retired employee of the C.N.R. where he worked for approximately 40 years. Elmer was a veteran of World War II having served with the Canadian Air Force, and was a member of Branch #34 Royal Canadian Legion, New Glasgow. He was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, and was former clerk of session. Elmer was also representative Elder from First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton to the Presbytery of Pictou and was on the History Committee of General Assembly. He also served as secretary of Robes and Fishes and was past president of Clan Cameron. Elmer was a member of Keith Masonic Lodge #23 AF&AM. He served as a volunteer at the Museum of Industry. Surviving are his wife, the former Evangeline (Vangie) MacMillan; daughters, Merla (Robert) (Smokey) Gerrior, Stellarton; Jeannie Way, Truro; sons: Barry Way, Whitehorse; Norman Way, Trenton; grandchildren: Laura, Neil and Anna Gerrior; great-grandchildren, Cohen and Maggie; a sister: Ethel Collier, Edmonton. His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Cremation will follow with burial of ashes in the Riverton Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Elmer may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, or to the building fund of the Pictou Co. Food Bank.
