NEW GLASGOW – George Kingham, 78, Spring St., New Glasgow, passed away January 16, 2008. George was born in Cardiff, Wales, February 15, 1929, and was raised and educated in England. He served in the British Army from 1943 to 1949, first as a boy soldier and then as a gunner in the Royal Artillery. George moved to Canada in 1954 and worked as a registered nurse in Saskatchewan and Ontario. He moved to Sydney, NS, in 1974 and was superintendent of the Children’s Training Centre for the care of handicapped children. George was a former member of St. Andrew’s United Church in Sydney and a member of Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton. He is survived by his wife, the former Joan Johnstone; sons, Michael George, Halifax; David Alexander (Karen Ann) and granddaughter, Ashlyn Ann, Ottawa. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Roy officiating. Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery. Donations in memory of George may be made to Sharon St. John United Church Elevator Fund or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
