It is with profound sadness that the family of James Skiffington "Skiff" Murchie announces his passing on January 4, 2007. After a courageous battle with cancer, he passed away at the age of 74 in his home with his loving family by his side. Skiff was born February 25, 1932, in St. Stephen, N.B., and was the son of the late Verna Ruth (Hanson) and the late James Skiffington Murchie. Mr. Murchie worked over 40 years in the food industry, starting with Dominion Stores and later retiring as President and COO of Sobeys Inc. His retirement years were enjoyed on the golf course and at home with close friends and family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Greta (Forrester). He was the dearly loved and respected father of Lesley Anne, Cameron, Rory, Greta and son-in-law Bruce; beloved grandfather to Jonathan, David, and Candace, and Amber and Drew. He will also be fondly remembered by his sisters, Jean (Harold) and Margaret (Ward). Skiff will be deeply missed by his sisters-in-law, Lorna and Betty; brother-in-law, Stan, and his many nieces, nephews and close friends. Visitation took place today from 6-9 p.m. in Glen Oaks Memorial Chapel, 3164 9th Line (Dundas), Oakville, Ont., 905-257-8822. Funeral service was held in the chapel on Monday, January 8, at 1 p.m. Interment in Springcreek Cemetery.
