James Thomas Walsh

NEW GLASGOW - James Thomas (Jimmie) Walsh, age 92, of North Ave. New Glasgow, passed away on Friday April 20, 2007 in the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow. Born in Merland , Antigonish County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marie (Bowman) Walsh. Jimmie worked in lumber camps prior to his service overseas. During his service overseas he served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment during WWII, having fought during the Italy campaign . After coming back home he spent some time working in the apple orchards in the valley. He also worked as a steel rigger in Toronto and worked at the building of the Aberdeen Hospital. Jimmie finished his working career with Hawker Siddley from where he retired in 1979. He was a member of BR#34 Royal Canadian Legion. His favorite pasttime was fishing and roaming the woods, enjoying what mother nature had to offer. He also looked forward to every summer when he would return to Merland, the Irish settlement he grew up in to attend a special mass at the church his family once attended and he once was a alter boy. This was a time to once again meet relatives and old friends. Jimmie was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are sons: Raymond (Lynn) and Leslie (Kenda), both of New Glasgow; daughter, Linda (Gerald) d'Entremont of Merigomish; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sisters, Catherine DeCoffe of Antigonish; Mary (Bill) Corbett of Dartmouth; a brother, Francis, of New Glasgow He was predeceased by his wife, Doris, last month; brothers: Johnie, Willie, Leslie, Ernie and Peter His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home for visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 2 p.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with Father Bobby Day officiating . Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in memory of Jimmie may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, the Lansdowne Outdoor Recreational Development Assoc., Box 591 Westville, BOK2AO or to a charity of one's choice.
