Jean Heather Macdonald

Jean Heather MacDonald (nee Carmichael), Stellarton. Heather MacDonald was above all else, a good mother. She was also a good daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and mother-in-law. She was a good friend, neighbour, worker and good person. Heather was born and spent her life in Stellarton and was a proud resident of her hometown. She went to school there, she lived there her entire life. As the daughter of Caroline "Carrie" and James Carmichael, she took the honesty, kindness, and goodness of her parents and endeavoured to live with those characteristics herself, and pass those traits, along with a strong work ethic, to her children and grandchildren. She spent many of her working years at Sears Warehouse and the Chignecto Regional School Board. She was an example of the fact that how you give, can carry more weight than what you give. A warm apple pie, a sincerely written card, a watchful eye over a grandchild, and a helping hand to one in need, were all examples of her generous spirit and kind heart. To her sons, Jimmie MacDonald (Crystal Sheppard and son Joey Gosbee) and Jason MacDonald (Tracy), and her daughter, Jana Locke (Allen), she was a constant beacon of love and support. To Sybil (Bill) MacLellan, Dartmouth, and Ken (Betty) McAdam, New Brunswick, she was the ever loving sister. To her grandchildren: Dylan, Emily, and Raleigh Locke and Kayla and James MacDonald she was Nan. Nan who read to them, who cared for them, who reminded them what was right and wrong. Nan, the ever present source of love and watchfulness. To Nancy she was a loving cousin and true friend. Had Heather been given the choice, it would have been her preference to stay in this life and watch those she loved the most, grow into adulthood. That not being possible, she left them all imprinted with the goodness of her character and wonderful memories to carry them forward. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held from First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, of which she was a long standing member of that congregation, on Sunday, July 1st, at 3 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Sherbrooke, NS. Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society or to a charity of one's choice.
