John "Alfred" Greene

NEW GLASGOW - John "Alfred" Greene, 99, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Woodburn, Pictou Co., passed away March 31, 2007, in the manor. Born in Green's Brook, he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary Jane (Cameron) Greene. He was a resident of New Glasgow where he worked for 23 years at the former George MacKay Bros. Meat Market. He then moved to North Attlehorn, Mass., where he resided for some 30 years having worked with Texas Instruments Ltd. for 23 years. Alfred returned in 1979 to reside in Woodburn. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, a member of Albion Masonic Lodge, #5 AF and AM, New Glasgow. While in the U.S.A. he joined the Scottish Rite. Alfred was also a member of the Staghorn Shooting Club, Coalburn. Surviving are his wife Jessie "Lou", Glen Haven Manor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lena and Katherine Urbach; brothers, George, Thomas and Daniel "Dan". Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Monday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Alfred may be made to Valley View Cemetery, East River St. Mary's.
