ABERCROMBIE - The family of John Edwin "Johnny" Turner, 84, Abercrombie, announce with profound sadness, his passing on Monday, January 15, 2007. He was surrounded by his family when he passed in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late George Ernest and Euphemia (MacLean) Turner. He worked in the Gun Shop, Trenton during the Second World War and was then employed at the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton and Fairey Aviation, Dartmouth. He was Chief Planner with Scott Maritimes, Abercrombie from 1968 until retirement in 1987. He was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow. He was a 50-year Jewel holder of Albion Lodge No. 5, A.F.&A.M., New Glasgow. A member of Philae Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. and Pictou County Shrine Club. John was very active in the Pictou East and West Liberal Associations for many years. He was President of the Executive of the Abercrombie Fire Department. John was a Hall of Fame member and a life-time member of the Bluenose Curling Club, New Glasgow. A team member of the 1990 Men's Master Provincial Champions and 1983 Senior Men's Provincial Champions which represented Nova Scotia at the National Senior Men's Championships in Sarnia, Ont. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Surviving are his daughter, Jane (Greg) Jones, Stellarton; son, Larry, Abercrombie; grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Jones; brother, Reagh Turner, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Freda Nancy (Carroll); son, Ernest in infancy; sister, Hannah Northcott. Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday from Trinity United Church with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Interment will be in Abercrombie Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Lung Association of Nova Scotia, or any charity of choice. Albion Masonic Lodge will conduct their service in the funeral home at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
