WESTVILLE - John George Dowell, age 87, Hamilton Road, Westville, passed away Friday, May 4, 2007, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Robert and Pansy (Woods) Dowell. John worked on his father's farm and various sawmills. He was also a coal miner at the MacGregor, Drummond and Greenwood Mines and also worked at Sunshine Laundry. He enjoyed watching the people who stopped to see his goats on Hamilton Road. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Isabel (MacQuarrie); daughter, Joyce Bright (Charles), Westville; sons, John and Robert, at home, and Carl, Halifax; grandchildren, Elizabeth, David, Dorothy and Janet Bright and Janice; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by sisters: Elsie MacKenzie, Dorothy Mills, Violet MacLeod, Mary Lloyd and Mae Bates; and brothers, William and Albert Dowell. Visitations were held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, on Sunday. His funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Monday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Captain Jim Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to any charity.
