PICTOU - Kathryne Marguerite "Kay" MacKay, 86 of the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, formerly of Thorburn, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, in the home. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Leone (Gray) Polson. She was a resident of the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou for the past four years having resided in Thorburn all her married life. She was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Thorburn and the Ladies Guild where she devoted much time to church and community affairs. She was a member of the Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #42 Thorburn for some 61 years. She was a registered nurse, working her early years as a private duty nurse and later retiring from the Aberdeen Hospital after 14 years in the nursery. She is survived by a son, Donnie (Christene) MacKay, Germany; a daughter, Isabelle (Doug) Dort, New Glasgow; her grandchildren whom she loved and cherished: Susan (Philip) Kingsbury, New Glasgow; Laurie (Mark) Partington, Montreal; Stephen and Debbie MacKay, Germany; six great-grandchildren; nieces, Gloria BeLong, Westville, Kathy Polson, Amherst; a nephew, David Polson, Halifax; a sister-in-law, Joyce Polson, Reserve Mines. She was predeceased by her husband, John Hendry Robb MacKay, brothers, Donald and Francis Polson. Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be held 11a.m. Thursday from the Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in the Thorburn Cemetery. Dorcas Rebekah Lodge #42 Thorburn will meet at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to conduct their service. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Kay may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of one's choice.
