STELLARTON – Marguerita S. “Rita” MacCallum, 91, of 41 Clairemont Avenue, Stellarton, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008, surrounded by her family at the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Watervale, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Isabella (Brown) Sinclair. Rita was a resident of Stellarton for the past 50 years where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the MacLellan-Fraser AMS and the Aberdeen Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Stellarton. Rita graduated from Normal College in 1937. She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in Mount Thom which consisted of grades primary to 11. She continued to substitute at various schools throughout Pictou County. She is survived by her son, Albert (Doreen), Stellarton; daughters: Isabelle Mason, New Glasgow; Betty (Charles) Fortune, Stellarton; and Ruth MacCallum (Fear), Halifax; grandchildren: Lori and Darren MacCallum, Mark and Scott Mason, Darla and Chad Fortune. She was predeceased by her husband, John H.; a sister, Katherine Connolly and precious grandson, Colin Fear. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday from the First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the Durham Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Rita may be made to Canadian Blood Services or to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society.
