PICTOU – Marion Mae (Maltby) Battist, 63, of Strathcona Place, Pictou, and formerly of Harris Rd., passed away peacefully January 15, 2008, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Toronto, Marion was a daughter of the late Richard and Edith (Metlin) Maltby. She grew up and lived in Pictou, all her life. Marion devoted her time to her family, being a nanny to grandchildren, Logan, Sydney, and Hershey, and paid special attention to all her close friends. She was a woman of special spirit, strength, and above all class. She loved skating, cross country skiing, and listening to Hank Williams Jr. She was also active in the Pictou County MS Support Association, and a member of Pictou United Church. Marion is survived by daughter, Stacy, Dartmouth; son, Trevor (Maureen), Stellarton; grandchildren, Logan and Sydney; brothers: Allan (Joan), Woodburn; Phil (Geraldine), Calgary; Garff, USA; sisters, Shirl, New Hampshire; and Sandra, Maine; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by infant brother, Ralph; sisters, Isabel, and Dorothy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday from Pictou United Church, with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Interment will be in Haliburton Cemetery.
