Elmer Leigh Bulman of Riverview, NB passed away quietly at the Moncton Hospital on February 24, 2010 at the age of 92 years. His final days were spent surrounded by loving family and friends. Born in Rustico, PEI on August 24, 1917, he was the son of the late Ernest and Rebecca Bulman. Elmer is survived by his beloved wife Ruth (nee Wood); sons, Leigh (Joyce) of Saint John, NB, and Glen of Riverview, NB; daughter, Nancy (Ian) Ryder of Woodstock, NB; daughter-in-law, Sherry Mercer of Riverview, NB; and loving grandchildren, Ashley, Kelsey, Sarah, Jason, Andrew and Patrick. He is also survived by sisters, Mildred Stevenson of Claresholm, AB and Hazel Anderson of New Glasgow, PEI; sisters-in-law, Jean Bulman of Rustico, PEI, Hilda Douglas of Charlottetown, PEI and Ruby (Elton) Doucette of Charlottetown, PEI; and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Bloyce in 2007 and an infant son in 1956; brothers, Fred, John and Exton; and sister Ruth. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Elmer was a World War II veteran, serving overseas in Europe with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following service, he pursued a career as a commercial pilot, flying with Maritime Central Airways and Eastern Provincial Airways for twenty-three years. After retiring from flying in 1978 Elmer continued to work as an accountant and book keeper, remaining active in his son’s business until 2007, at age 90. Elmer was a life time member of the R.A.F Escaping Society, the 201 R.C.A.F Wing Charlottetown, PEI, and the Riverview Veterans and Armed Forces Association. He also served as a volunteer for the Meals-on- Wheels program. Those acquainted with Elmer knew a kind, generous and gentle man of strong faith, and devotion to family and friends. A tireless worker always ready to lend a hand, he gave much and took little. Possessing strength of character and an adventurous spirit, he was an unfailing supporter of family and friends in life’s pursuits. Elmer enriched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, and loved always.
Remains are resting at the Central Queen’s Funeral Home, 2538 Glasgow Road, New Glasgow, PEI. No visitation, by personal request. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, or a charity of the donor’s choice, would be appreciated.
