Margaret Adeline "Addie" Smith (Dunbar), 86, of New Glasgow, devoted mom, nanny, grandma, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital New Glasgow. Adeline was born on December 8, 1920, in Eureka and was the eldest daughter of the late Lt. Col. J.W.A. Dunbar and Christena (Jardine) Dunbar. She will be sadly missed by daughters: Joanne (Lawrence) MacDonald, Springville; Eleanor, New Glasgow; Carolyn Townsend, Dartmouth; Patricia (Bill) Rizzotti, New Glasgow; sons, John, Niagara Falls, Ont.; Donald (Ferne), Timberlea, NS; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; beloved sister, Jean Mackay (Stirling) Baudoux, Kingston, Ont. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, parents, John and Christena Dunbar, brothers, Rev. Fraser Dunbar and Alex Halliday. Addie was an Elder at Trinity United Church, becoming an Honorary Elder after 25 years of service. She was also a member of the Trinity United Church, UCW Unit "E.F.C."; a member of the Pictou Highlanders%E2%80%9A Memory Club; a member of the Local Council of Women; and a valued canvasser for the Cancer and Heart Foundations. She worked as a Returning Officer for many provincial and federal elections over the years. Visitation 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 2, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at the Trinity United Church in New Glasgow with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook and Lori Crocker D.M. officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow, at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to Trinity United Church or a charity of choice.
