
LEONARD WARREN MERRITT
MERRITT, LEONARD WARREN Leonard Warren Merritt passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 at Extendicare Nursing home in Oshawa at the age of 84. Born in Maple Grove, New Brunswick, on July 16th, 1922, he moved to Springfield, New Brunswick in 1936 and drove bus for Capital Transit for a number of years between Fredericton and Millville. In early 1953, he moved to Oshawa, Ontario with his wife Bessie and daughter Bonnie, where he worked at Duplate Canada, PPG, until he retired. He is survived by his wife, Bessie (Mullin) to whom he was married for almost 58 years, daughters Janet Clark of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Bonnie Harris of Kitchener, Ontario and Cindy Kelly (David) of Gananoque, Ontario. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Tammy Jo Ann Holmgren (John) of Kingston, Ontario, Shane Warren Gilbert Kelly of Oshawa, Ontario, Candice Harris of Kitchener, Ontario, Craig Clark (Patricia) of St. John, New Brunswick, Stacey Wilcox (Troy) Alan Clark of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Andrew Clark of Vancouver, British Columbia. - Great Grandchildren include Brianna, Caine, Gage and William (Wilcox's) of Fredericton, New Brunswick. As well, he leaves behind a brother, Reid Merritt of Fredericton, New Brunswick and a sister, Letha Cope of Florida, along with a number of nieces and nephews. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Warren Merritt and Mae (Dunphy), brothers Carl, Harold and Ronald and a sister, Elma Ingraham. A memorial service was held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Oshawa, on Wednesday December 13, 2006 at 1 pm., with donations to the Cancer and Diabetes Association. During the service, his granddaughter Candice read a Christmas card and personal wishes from her and her mother Bonnie, Jill Saddler, sang portions of songs to which Leonard had taught or accompanied her on his mouth organ as well as a recounting how he had touched her and the lives of others in the nursing home. This was followed by a loving tribute by his grandson, Shane Warren Gilbert Kelly, during which he recounted many special moments and contributions of his grandfather to himself, family, friends, and sports team members. This was followed by a DVD memorial tribute composed by his son in law David with pictures selected by Shane and Cindy, A luncheon was provided at the conclusion of the service at Armstrong Funeral Home. Leonard has left us many treasured memories that we will keep him close to those who knew and loved him always.
