JOHN BOYD OATWAY

OATWAY, JOHN BOYD Mr. John Boyd Oatway of Fredericton, New Brunswick, passed away after a brief illness on August 16, 2008, at the age of 84. He was one of twin boys born to John Wilfred and Elizabeth Oatway on December 10, 1923. After serving in the Armed Forces, John went to work for CP Airlines in Edmonton, Alberta. He later became a District Airworthiness Inspector for the Federal Government in Saskatoon, SK. John loved all types of sports and excelled in several, but he was most accomplished in 5 pin bowling where he and his teammates took home the silver medal in a National competition. Throughout the years, John and his wife Alice spent countless hours volunteering for various organizations, including working with the Canadian Hard of Hearing and Neighbourlink in Calgary, AB, where he sewed baby blankets for single mothers to making sock bears and dog bandanas for the Kindness Club in Fredericton, NB. He was a gentle man who had overcome various medical conditions and persevered through his love of God and the support and love of his family. His life will be celebrated, yet sadly missed by all he came into contact with. Johnny leaves behind his wife Alice; his children Shirley and husband Ron White; Ted and wife Julia Oatway; Sharon Oatway; Karen and husband Steve McGeean; Kendy Bentley and husband David Lachapelle; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. John also leaves behind his sisters Lillian Oatway of Saskatoon, SK; Margaret and Bert Parker of Humboldt, SK and his twin brother Loyd Oatway of Delta BC. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Sunday August 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in New Maryland. Public viewing will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton Saturday, August 23 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Flower tributes will graciously be accepted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to OHAfrica, Suite 302 - 401 Queen's Quay W, Toronto, ON, M5V 2Y2. Funds will be directed to the Oatway Family Scholarship Fund. WE LOVE AND WILL MISS YOU DAD!
