CROSSMAN, PATRICIA OWEN (BRANSCOMBE) - Patricia Owen (Branscombe) Crossman, MLA for Riverview, died peacefully at the Moncton Hospital Monday, December 30, 2002 following a lengthy illness. Born in Moncton in 1940, Pat was the daughter of the late Owen & Dorothy Branscombe. She was a graduate of Moncton High School and attended Acadia University. Pat was a life long volunteer, whose love and support for public education led her to serve 24 years as a school board member in School District # 2, also serving a term as Board Chair. She was a life member and former president of both New Brunswick School Trustees Association and the Canadian School Boards Associations. Pat was also a charter member of the Hon. Dr. C. H. Blakney Chapter IODE and a life member of IODE at the Primary and Provinicial levels. She was a dedicated member of St. George's Anglican Church, serving both on the Vestry and as Vestry Clerk. Pat was also honoured to be a recipient of the Commemorative Medal celebrating the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation, in recognition of her significant contribution to Canada and her fellow Canadians. Pat was elected to the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly in June 1999 and served as Chair of the Select Committee on Education. She was particularly proud of her Government's initiative to return locally-elected district education councils to New Brunswick. In 1993 Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she has been a fighter and an advocate on behalf of the disease since that time. Her courage was an inspiration to many, and she was pleased to be asked to act as Honourary Chairperson of the 2002 "Run for the Cure" in support of breast cancer research and treatment. Pat will be greatly missed by her daughters; Alexandra Lafford (Joseph) of Sackville and Alison Davidson (Mark) of Riverview; and her beloved grandsons William, Jeffrey and Thomas Lafford of Sackville. She will also be remembered with love by her sister Diane Mugridge of Moncton; nephews Michael Mugridge (Angela McCune) of Montreal and Todd Mugridge (Lisa Paschal) of Moncton; nieces Patricia Mugridge (Calvin Gough) of Dartmouth and Wendy Mugridge of Halifax and four great nieces and nephews..
