ERIC (IKE) BOWEN

BOWEN, ERIC (IKE) - Eric (Ike) Bowen, husband of the late Margaret Sarah (Peacock) Bowen, died peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 28, 2003. Born in Hull, England on September 14, 1913, he was a son of the late Annie (Howdle) and Walter Ernest Bowen. He came to Canada with his family when he was 10 years old and spent his whole life in Saint John. Ike was manager of Martin Senour Paints in Saint John for a number of years and was involved in the family business, Peacock's Flower Shop. He was an employee of Dykeman's Hardware Ltd., Adelaide Street, for more than 20 years, retiring just four years ago. He was a long-time member of the parish of St. Paul's (Valley) Church and St. Barnabas Chapel of Ease. He served overseas during the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Portland Branch 64; a member of the Free Masons; a member of the Knights of Pythias, Lodge No. 1, and the Fire Salvage Corps. Besides his parents, Ike was predeceased by two young siblings, Cyril and Marjorie Bowen; a brother Ronald (Jock) Bowen and two sisters, Ruby Pearce and Ivy Frear. He is survived by one son, Eric George Bowen and his wife Sandra Davis; one cousin, Vera Hutt; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Bowen, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at St. Paul's (Valley) Church on Wednesday, December 31, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at Fernhill Cemetery. There is no visiting at the funeral home by family request. Donations in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row.
