HANSEN, PHYLLIS J. - The death of Phyllis J. Hansen, wife of G. E. Norman Hansen, occurred on December 29, 2003, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Margaret Cecilia (Landers) Ballard. She was a graduate and Life Member of the Alumni of St. Vincent's High School. She was a life long resident of Saint John except from 1942-1945 when she accompanied her husband to Canadian Consul in New York and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC. She was a member of St. Peter's Church and the St. Peter's CWL and St. Bridget's Church, Chapel Grove, where she summered. She was active with the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered with St. Joseph's Hospital and the Catholic Book Store. Besides her husband she is survived by her sons Rev. Paul Hansen CSsR of Toronto, Karl J. Hansen and his wife Pauline of Saint John, Tony M. Hansen and his wife Mary Lou of Charlottetown, PEI, Joel P. Hansen and his wife Joanne of St. Stephen, NB, her daughter Mary Jane Hansen of Saint John, her brother John Joseph Ballard of Saint John, her grandchildren Kristian and Joelle, Colin, Lindsay, Brendan, Seth, Jacob Hansen and Matthew, Luke and Leah Ferguson and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Raymond E., Louis P., Gerald C., Harold and Donald R. Ballard and her sisters Mary Leger and Doreen M. Ballard. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 2, 2004, at 10:00 AM, from St. Peter's Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
