It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our dear mother, Lillian Martha Mercer, who passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late George and Martha (Haddad) Shebib.
She was a member of St. Augustine’s parish, Sydney, as well as a past member of St. Augustine’s CWL, Club 55 and the Grand Lake Fire Hall Ladies Auxiliary. She will be fondly remembered for her delicious cooking and baking. Friends, neighbours and strangers were always welcomed to enjoy a meal at her table. Her passions were dancing, bowling, cards, bingo and the casino.
She is survived by her sons, Robert (Susan), Charlottetown, P.E.I., Earl (Lois), Brian (Cathy), both of Sydney; daughters, Lillian (James) Yhard, Gwen (Harvey) LeBlanc, Shirley (Major) Gullickson, Inez Candelora, Darlene (Parker) Cuff, all of Sydney, Eva (Sam) Dicks, Oshawa; 27 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Earl, brothers, Mosie, Alec, Davie, Louis, by sisters, Laura, Alice, Mamie, Rosie, Adele and Eva.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Mercer will take place Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of (Irish Cove) at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, for the absolute wonderful care that our mother received during her stay with them.
