James Michael MacKinnon, 88 of Sydney, passed away Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Murdock and Margaret (MacIntyre) MacKinnon.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Sydney. James was a kind and friendly man. He was employed with the Department of National Defense as a painter until his retirement. James was an avid reader and loved music, animals and was an avid collector.
He is survived by his sister, Mora (Kenny) Hawley, Sydney and by numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to James’s caregiver, brother-in-law, Kenny Hawley.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Jerome, Hector and John Alec ‘Bebes’; a sister, Jessie and five siblings in infancy.
Visitation for James Michael MacKinnon will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the C.B. Branch of S.P.C.A or charity of choice. Family flowers only by request.
