It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Clarence Gordon Rideout, 77, on Monday, Feb.16, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney Mines, Clarence was the son of the late Bond and Myrtle (Snow) Rideout.
He was a member of the Salvation Army. He was a retired coal miner, having worked in the Prince Mine for over 21 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Dawe) Rideout; daughters, Debbie (James) Hardy, Georges River, Carol (Bert) Sullivan, North Sydney, Ruth Ann Rideout (Steve Wells), Sydney, and Darlene Rideout, (Cliffy), Sydney Mines; sons, Clarence Jr. (Denise), Alder Point, and Brian (Nadine), at home; 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Donnie (Dolores), Sydney Mines; sisters, Florence MacLellan and Loretta MacKinnon, both of Sydney Mines, and Bernice, Halifax.
Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his son, Kevin, sister, Margaret Ford, and brothers, Arthur and Fred.
The family will receive visitors at the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Clarence’s life will take place in the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. with Major Daniel Roode officiating.
Donations in memory of Clarence may be made to the Salvation Army, or to the Children’s Wish foundation.
