It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, devoted wife, and greatest grandmother, Violet (Burton) Bonner, 72, on February 19, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (MacLellan) Burton.
Violet is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Leonard Bonner; one son, Leonard Bonner, Sydney Mines; daughters, Deborah Anderson, Sydney Mines, Stephanie Bonner, North Sydney and Charlene Bonner, Sydney Mines. She is also survived by one sister, Florence Blackie, Sydney Mines. She will be sadly missed by her six grandchildren, Sam and Steven Anderson, Virginia and Eric Bateman, and Ashley and Shelby Bonner.
Our mother was a wonderful loving person who loved to be surrounded by family. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and looked forward to seeing at family gatherings, and always welcomed visits from her many family and friends.
Besides her parents, Violet was predeceased by her brothers, George, Murdock, and John Burton; sisters, Margaret Hollingsworth, Ann MacNeil and Sadie MacDonald; a very precious grand niece, Cindy Gilbert, and her daughter-in-law, Anne Mae MacKinnon.
There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. A memorial service to celebrate Violet’s life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Peter Refuse officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Violet’s memory may be made to Cape Breton Cancer Center or the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
