It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Austin Hatcher, 75, a resident of High Street, North Sydney, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at his home.
Born in North Sydney he was a son of the late William and Olive (Voutier) Hatcher.
Austin was employed for over 40 years with H.B. Nickerson and Sons, maintenance department and he enjoyed very much the camaraderie of his friends and coworkers at the fish plant. He made several trips to Halifax to visit his son and family, who enjoyed and appreciated the time they spent together. Austin often spoke about the highlights of a recent vacation he spent with his brother Harold in Newfoundland. Austin was a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
Surviving are his son, Austin (Susan McCowan) Hatcher, Halifax; three grandchildren, Felicia, Kira and Vance; by a great grandson, Darian; one brother, Wilson (Doris) Hatcher, Georgetown, Ont.; two sisters, Eileen Hatcher, Brampton, and Beryl (Robert) Fiegehen, Port Dover, Ont.
Austin was predeceased by his wife, Ann (Ginter) Hatcher, one daughter, Linda, two brothers, Frank and Harold Hatcher, one sister, Shirley.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Gloria McClure Fraser officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
