Stella Grealey, 89 of Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Bridge Ave., Stellarton, passed away February 20, 2009, at the Villa.
Born in England, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Grainger and Isabel Helena (Houghton) Scott.
Stella had been a resident of the Valley View Villa for the past year, having lived most of her life in Stellarton.
She was a very active member of Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton, where she served as Treasurer from 1968-2002, a member of the Altar Guild, Sunday School Teacher for over 25 years, a member of the choir for over 50 years, member of the A.C.W, the General and the Dorcas Group.
Stella was a member of Southern Cross Rebekah Lodge where she was Past Noble Grand and a member of the Past Noble Grand’s Club.
She was also a member of the Maple Leaf Orange Lodge where she was a past Mistress and a member of the Crystal Chapter L.O.B.A. where she was Past Senior Preceptress.
Stella also belonged to the Stellarite Seniors Club and was a member of the Aberdeen Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
Stella had been employed at Barkers Grocery, Pictou County Bus Services and the Toronto Dominion Bank until her retirement.
She is survived by sisters, Isabel (Douglas) Henderson, St. John, N.B; Cora Knocton, Antigonish; a brother, Fred Hampton, Truro; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Garnet; sisters: Lillian Rodgers, Dorothy DeCoste, Alice Hines and her step-father, John Hampton.
Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday from Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton with Rev. Peter Armstrong and Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Christ Anglican Cemetery at a later date.
