“Come day, go a day”
The children of Margaret Isabel MacMullin, widow of the late Arthur Pius, (Boisdale) MacMullin (d. 1980), have surrendered to God a devoted servant.
Born November 29, 1918, in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Margaret was the eldest daughter of Daniel Michael and Josephine Helen (Ranson) McPhee. She completed the circle of life on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at her second home in Calgary, Alta., surrounded by her family.
A woman devoted to God and family, Margaret’s continuous prayers for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave them the assurance of love and protection.
Margaret had 19 pregnancies and delivered 22 children, two of whom died in early infancy and three of whom were stillborn. She is survived by 17 children, 10 daughters and seven sons, Elizabeth (Raymond) Flemming, Anne Marie (late Gordon) Mont, Patricia (Waldemar) Gert, Mary (Francis) Chiasson, Agnes (Lorne) Fredericksen, Elaine (Stanton) Morris, Geralyn (Joe Lecce), Katherine (Daniel) Moore, all of Calgary, Rose (late Roderick) MacLellan, New Waterford and Andrea (Donald) MacEachreon, Moncton; Don (Shirley), Cold Lake, Alta., Vincent (Karen), San Diego, California, John (Sylvia), Dutch Brook and Halifax, Gerard (Cindy), Walnut Creek, California, Michael (Nicole), Montreal, Peter, Sydney and Kenneth (Claire), Sugar Land, Texas. Margaret also leaves 38 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; her sisters, June (late Wilfred) Attwood, New Waterford and Mary (Henry) Burns, Oromocto, N.B. and brother, Bernard, New Waterford.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Veronica (late Vincent) Whiting, Donald ‘Buddie’ (Clara Irvine, a great friend of young womanhood), Wilfred, Thelma (late Judson) Boutilier, James ‘Jim’, Theresa and Robert Petrie and Dolena Burns.
Her extended family includes many nieces and nephews and their children, brother-in-law, Jim Burns and sisters-in-law, Regina (Wilfred) McPhee and Florrie (widow of Jim McPhee).
Throughout the years, Margaret also mothered many neighbourhood children. Hundreds enjoyed her homemade bread, and there was always enough food for anyone whenever they visited. She especially loved being in her home in New Waterford and the large family gatherings there.
We invite all who knew and loved her and her children to join with us in a final tribute to this very special woman. At her specific request, she will be waked at her home at 3389 Wilson Ave., New Waterford on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 after 2 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at The Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. Reception to follow at Army Navy Airforce Centre, New Waterford. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, 902-862-6439.
