It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Robert ‘Papa’ Murray on Monday, Feb. 23, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Ainsworth, B.C. he was a son of the late James and Annie (Harnon) Murray.
Robert had been employed with the Sydney Steel Corporation as a crane operator, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. Papa was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed spending time with family and his faithful companion ‘Ally.’
He is survived by his two sons, David (Patsy), North Sydney, with whom he resided, Alan, St. Catharines, Ont.; two daughters, Ruth (David) Grant, Pt. Edward, Donna MacDonald, Port Colbourne, Ont.; a sister, Libby, Vancouver; and a daughter-in-law ,Donna Lee Murray; 12 grandchildren, Dawn (David) Stenhouse, Sydney Australia, Holly and Caelin Murray, Matthew and Andrew Grant, Tara and Steven Murray, Beverly, Billy, John, Michael and David MacDonald; eight great-grandchildren, Nole, Cierra, Jesse, Blake, Katherine, Tristan, Taylor, Scotia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alice Cox, son-in-law, John MacDonald, brothers, Alexander, Thomas, James, Fred, Angus, George, John, Francis, Alexander, sisters, Sarah Jane, Elva, Mary Catherine, Ella.
Visitation for Robert will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser and Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
