Roderick Glenford "Rod" Keirstead EAST MARGAREE, NS - Roderick Glenford "Rod" Keirstead, 59, Apple River and East Margaree, passed away February 9, 2004 surrounded by the Angels of the 5th Floor of the VG Site, QEII, and by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 1, 1944, in Amherst, he was a son of the late Clement and Berna Murphy-Keirstead. He was employed with the Royal Bank of Canada, Texaco Canada, Purolator Courier Ltd. and Canada Post, where he was in sales and marketing. He enjoyed his work and colleagues, but his greatest accomplishments in life were his three children. He enjoyed fishing, spending time at the hunting camp, four wheeling, country music. He enjoyed sharing stories, and his culinary art amongst his family and friends everywhere. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Emily (Duyon); daughters, Carlene McGivney (Randy Helmle), Oshawa, ON; Dr. Natalie Keirstead (John Brake), Guelph, ON; son, Glenn (Kelly Newcombe), Woodside; brother, Morton (Anne), Wolfville; sisters, Pearle (Wilson) Timmons, West Bay, Connie (Brian) Ells, Advocate Harbour; grandchildren, Ronnie, Catherine, Darrell, Tommy, Nathania. He was "unca" to several nieces, nephews and friends. Also will be missed by his dear friends he had made throughout his lifetime. Rod will be especially missed by his constant and loyal feline companion of 14 years, Raven. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy in infancy. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 7 to 9 pm, Friday, February 13 and 12:30 to 2 pm, Saturday, February 14, with a celebration of Rod's life 2 pm Saturday, both in Advocate United Church, Rev. Jean Simms-Mills officiating. A memorial mass and Christian Burial will be held in East Margaree at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations to the Palliative Care Cumberland Branch or to your local animal shelter. Arrangements have been entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, Dartmouth.
