On Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, Cyril Patrick Crawley was called to take his place in Heaven. Cyril passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Patrick and Bride (Brophy) Crawley.
He was a devoted member of St. Nicholas and Holy Redeemer parishes, Whitney Pier. In his younger days, Cy loved fishing and hunting and was one of the founders of the Whitney Pier Fish and Game Association. He was an avid reader. Cy was well known throughout Cape Breton Island in the auto paint industry. During his lifetime, he worked at Maritime Leathers, Scotia Distributors and Sydney Auto Parts where he retired from in 1993.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Jean Gillis; three sons, John (Angelina); Allan (Janice) and Randy (Cathy), all of Sydney; three sisters, Maime (Teddy) Libby, Mira; Germain Makaranko, North Bay, Ont., Patricia Crawley, Sydney; two brothers, Ron, Sydney and Terry, Mira; two grandsons, Shaun (Jessica), Haliburton, Ont.; David, Sydney and granddaughter, Meggan, Sydney.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Bill.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow at St. Nicholas Hall on Gatacre Street, Whitney Pier.
Cy’s family would like to thank all those who helped in any way.
