It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond Coffin, age 84, formerly of Bridgeport and a resident of Smith Street, Glace Bay. Raymond passed away on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Bill and Cassie (Matheson) Coffin. Raymond was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of Branch 3 Legion. He was employed as a mechanic at Highland Motors for several years. He then trained as an electronics technician and operated a successful business for over 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was known as the “TV Man” by many of his customers. He took a keen interest in computers, enjoyed playing the guitar and loved to go for drives.
He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Jerry, Ronnie (Janine) (with whom he resided), Glace Bay; brothers, Norman (Amelia), Donald (Shirley), James (Debbie) and Kelvin (Eileen), Glace Bay; sisters, Helen (Ernest) McKenzie, Glace Bay, Sara (Reg) Deveaux, Westmount, Carol (Bob) Norsworthy, Caribou, ME; cherished grandchildren, Troy (Cathy), Tammy, Dayna (Stephen) Murray, Rhonda (Tom) Gaudette and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased a daughter, Gloria and former wife, Sarah (O’Regan); a sister, Audrey (Wheeliker) and a brother, Roy.
Visitation for Raymond Coffin will be held today (Tuesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Raymond’s memory may be made to Renal Dialysis Unit, Sydney.
