Robert Clyde “Bumpa†MacAulay, age 81, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Grace (MacAulay) Fraser and chosen son of the late Anna and Roderick MacAulay.
He was a member and elder at First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. During his lifetime, he worked at Roops Grocery, J.J. Grants and Metropolitan Life. He was the owner of the Shell Bulk Plant, retiring in 1981, and was the owner of the Abercrombie Shell Garage. He was one of the co-founders of Trenton Centennial Days. He was a former chairman of the United Way. He was parade marshal for many years and built many floats for everyone’s enjoyment. He started and taught Cubs and Scouts in Trenton. He served on Trenton Town Council, was a member of the Trenton Lions Club, member of the St. Andrew’s Society; member of Pictou County Tourism; he coached Trenton Junior C hockey and was president of the New Glasgow Commercial Hockey League.
He is survived by his children: Richard (Katherine), Fort Wayne, Indiana; Elaine (Robert) Pentz, Trenton; Kevin (Cindy), Dartmouth; grandchildren: Lesley, Allison, Raymond, Kayla, Kurtis, Amber and Amy; great-grandchildren: Courtney, Avery, Damon, Sophie, Hallie, Calan and Aubrey; sister, Gertrude MacKenzie, Trenton; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Mason, PEI; Vivian (David) Morton, Trenton; Pauline Fraser, Trenton.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Shirely (Reynolds) MacAulay; brother, Roderick Fraser; mother-in-law, Edna Sloan; sister, Margaret Johnson.
Every year he loved Christmas and loved gardening and traveling. He was always there to help his children, grandchildren with whatever they needed. He fought a long, courageous battle since January 2008, until his passing, never complaining or giving up. We will never forget what a wonderful person he was and how much we loved him.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 3:30 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery at a later date.
