It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Rose Mildred MacKinnon, 94, on Sunday, March 8th, 2009, at High Crest Place, New Glasgow, formerly of Lower Barney’s River.
Born in New Harbour, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late James and Edith (Nickerson) Barss.
Mum will be remembered for how she embraced life, impacting all who knew her. Mum’s priority in life was her loving family, who she cherished. She had a special place in her heart for all her caregivers, who will miss her bright smile and presence. She loved to travel, play cards and go for drives. She was a very gentle and kind person who will be missed by all.
Surviving are son, Murray, Toronto/Shubenacadie; daughters: Edith (John) Watt, Dartmouth; Ruth (Wayne) Hatt, Shubenacadie; Linda (Eddy) Cameron, Stellarton; grandchildren: Susan (Terry) Hillier, Enfield; Carrie (Glenn) Peck, Shubenacadie; Marilyn Folkertsma, Shubenacadie; Sean (Christine) Watt, Minesville; George (Tara) Cameron, MacLellan’s Brook; Danny Cameron, Trenton; great-grandchildren: Wayne, Morganne, Taylor, Kilie, Jacob, Amanda Rose, Covey and Cale; sister, Velma Sangster, New Harbour; brother, Earl Barss, New Glasgow.
Predeceased are husband, John MacKinnon; two children in infancy; brothers: Owen, Morris, Laurie, Ivan, Martin, Roland and Basil; sisters, Marquarite and Ethel.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Gail Johnson-Murdock officiating assisted by Rev. Dr. J. Kenneth MacLeod. Private family burial will be in the Murray’s Point Cemetery.
