Mary Harris Sherwood The death of Mary Harris Sherwood of Fredericton, NB, occurred at the York Manor Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 25th, 2007. Born in Hillsboro, NB, she was the daughter of the late Edmund M. and Frances W. (Downing) Sherwood. Mary was a graduate of Aberdeen High School in Moncton and the Provincial Normal School in Fredericton. She moved to Fredericton in 1948 and worked for 34 years with Blue Cross, retiring in 1978 as District Supervisor. She was a long-time member of Brunswick Street Baptist Church and loved singing with the church choir. Being a Dominion Life Member of the Senior Women's Missionary Society was also a great passion for Mary. At York Manor she was known as the "Butterfly Lady" due to her love of the little creatures and many would recognize the name "Molly Wiggins" as the persona she took on in the many plays and skits in which she participated. She thoroughly enjoyed life. Although Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family, she touched the lives and hearts of many. She will be sadly missed by her chosen family and best friends, George and Sue Doak of Fredericton, NB and their children, Rev. Joanna Doak of Dartmouth, NS, Rachel Doak of Fredericton, NB, Naomi and Eric Robert of Fredericton, NB and Geordie Doak of the Yukon. As well, she leaves behind her dear friends and caregivers, Anna and Rebecca Jonah of Fredericton, NB and Helen Lambert of Fredericton, NB. She will be fondly remembered by her many special "phone friends" including Mildred Manzer, Virginia Bayley, Gretchen Kitchen and Beatrice Lemon. Mary was predeceased by her parents, as well as her brother, Ralph E. Sherwood and his wife Hazel. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home (458-9170) on Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church on Thursday, September 27th, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Dr. Terry Atkinson will officiate with Rev. Ralph Irving assisting. Interment will be held in the Hopewell Hill Cemetery, Albert Co., NB at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes in Mary's honor may be made to The Gideon Bible Society. www.mcadamsfh.com
