George Power
George Power SALISBURY, NB - George Herbert Power, 76, of Salisbury entered into the presence of His Lord very peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday March 4th, 2008 following a lengthy illness. He was a son of the late Ernest and Hazel (Carson) Power of River Glade. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Myrtle; as well as three sons, Daniel (Elizabeth) and Philip (Nancy) of Salisbury West, Barry of Moncton; two daughters, Kathryn of The Glades and Beth Duncan (Darrell) of Salisbury West. "Grampy" will also be missed by his six grandsons, Jonathan Power of Saint John, Matthew Power (Emily) of Salisbury, Vaughan Duncan of Salisbury West, Cpl. Shawn Power, presently, serving in Afghanistan, Charles Duncan (Heidi) of Middlesex and Benjamin Duncan of Salisbury West; as well as two granddaughters, Natalie Power and Sarah Duncan of Salisbury West and one great granddaughter , Rebekah Power. He is survived also by his two sisters, Ruth Adair (Vaughan) of Moncton and Patricia Henry of Sussex; brothers in law, Russell Stiles (Willena) of Fredericton and Stanley Stiles (Joan) of Linden, NS, as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers in law, Walter Spencer and Gerald Steves and sister in law, Lorraine Steves. George graduated from Salisbury High School and from the New Brunswick Technical Institute in Moncton, NB. During his years of attending NBTI he met his wife of 54 years, the former Myrtle Stiles. He worked for over a year at Steeves Motors Ltd. before returning to River Glade to work the farm with his father, continuing on after his father's retirement until mid 1986. He drove school bus in what was then district 16 for 27 years until his retirement in 1994, after which he worked with Eagles Precision Machining for several years. At the time of his death George was a member of Salisbury Baptist Church. He was a man of deep and abiding faith, devoted to his God, his family and a wide circle of friends. He has served in several churches as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, and on various boards and committees. He has served on boards with Westmorland/Kent Association, and was supportive of the Gideons and several mission causes. Also given to hospitality, he and his wife have had the joy of entertaining family and friends and many of the Lord's special servants in mission and ministry in their home on the farm and more recently in Salisbury. Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) where visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 7th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Salisbury Baptist Church, Saturday March 8 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mark Smith officiating, assisted by Rev. Blake Bartlett. Interment at Fairhaven Cemetery, Moncton. If so desired, memorials to the charity of your choice will be appreciated. www.keirsteads.ca
