BERNARD BOURQUE

BOURQUE, BERNARD - Bernard Bourque passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 18, 2009. He was 78 years old. Bernard was born July 1, 1931 in Cap Pelé. He was the son of the late Ernest Bourque and the late Louise Léger. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marina (Gaudet) Bourque, their four children, Jocelyne Bourque (Frank Wedekind) and Pierrette Hébert (Zoël) both of Shediac, Conrad of Borden, ON and Denis (Anne) of Sussex; several sisters and brothers, Andréa O'Brien (late Alfred), Ernestine Targett (Arnold), Oscar Bourque (Edith), Camille Bourque (Bella) and Hervé Bourque (Dorine) all of Shediac, nine grandchildren: Mathieu, Stéphanie, Mélanie, Mario, Benjamin, Brittany, petite Pierrette, Mark and Nathan, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by a infant son Conrad, a sister, Thérèse Rhéaume, and two brothers: Aimé and Louis Bourque. Bernard was a certified engineering technician with the company Spear Northrup for 21 years. The highlight of his career was being chosen to oversee the shop drawings for the Centennial Chatham Bridge construction project during the mid 1960's. This project lasted over three years. During this time, Bernard was very much involved with the School Board District #13 for the Shediac/Cap Pelé area. At the time of his retirement, Bernard was the Public Works Director for the Town of Shediac following a 10 year term. Bernard Bourque VE9 BBM, was a Charter Life Member of the Moncton Seniors Amateur Radio Club Inc. He was also one of the founders of the Shediac Bay Amateur Radio group. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. He participated fully in his many hunting, snowmobiling and ATV adventures through the years. He was well known and respected within the community of outdoor enthusiasts. He shared these interests with his sons and grandsons. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his cherished grandchildren telling stories about his long and eventful life. The family will receive relatives and friends at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) on Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, from 1 p.m. until time of departure at 1:45 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Shediac on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
