Sydney Mines It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Russell John MacDonald, announce his sudden passing at the age of 44, on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in a house fire along with the family pets, Sasha, Casey and Moe. Born on July 16, 1964, in Sydney Mines, N.S., he attended Memorial High School and became an electrician with his own contracting company, Live Lines. Russell was predeceased by his parents, Mary (MacIntyre) and Russell MacDonald and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife and soulmate, Beth (Matthews); his five cherished children, Tiffany, Mary-Beth, Matthew, Hannah and Eddie; his brothers and sisters, Colleen (Kevin McGean), Denise (Joe Bianchini), Marvin (Noelle), Sharon (Jason Lettice) and Trevor (Catherine). He is also survived by many aunts and uncles and by brothers-in law and sisters-in-law, Debbie Moore (Howie), Barbara MacDonald (David), Joanne Jardine (Sandy), Georgina MacLeod (Ian), Jim (Stephen) and Donna Landry (Bob Hicks). Russell will also be deeply missed by close friends George MacMullin, Sheldon and Carolyn Forrest, Paris Landry, Colin and Margaret Devoe, Mike and Dee McDonald, Janet Wilkie and Sharon Cousins. Russell was a truly dedicated father, husband and brother. He was a source of great strength, dedication and compassion for his family and his community. In a quiet and understated way, he helped many and was deeply thought of in Sydney Mines, the Northside and beyond. Beth and his children were everything to Russell and with time, they will overcome their grief and loss to honour his spirit and his example. Over the years, Russell also coached several sports teams, most recently the basketball team of his youngest daughter Hannah, the Jubilee Lakers. Russell's funeral will take place in Immaculate Conception Church, 49 Convent St., Sydney Mines, Wednesday Dec. 17, 2008, at 2 p.m., Fr. Dan MacLennan will conduct the mass. A reception will follow at the John J. Nugent Firemen's Centre, Sydney Mines. Donations in Russell's memory may be made to the IWK Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home.
