84, Glace Bay It s with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father and friend, Roderick Joseph 'Roddie' MacNeil, which occurred Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Allan and Effie MacNeil. Roddie was a member of St. Anne's parish. He enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. When he returned home, he drove taxi before entering heavy construction, where he worked as a carpenter and supervisor. Roddie frequently visited Iona and Christmas Island and was an avid hockey fan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita; their sons, John (Gina), Niagara Falls, N.Y., Mike, Paul and Bernie, all of Glace Bay; daughter-in-law, Tanya, Glace Bay; brother, Bernie, Iona; sister, Theresa Bain, Vancouver, B.C.; sisters-in-law, Dolores 'Cookie' MacNeil and Eleanor MacNeil, both of Glace Bay; and his very dear friend, Peggy Hiscott. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sons, Jimmie, Roddie and Martin, brothers, Johnny, Francis, Lennie, Angus, Malcolm and Michael, sister, Peggy. Visitation today (Tuesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Rev.
